L'Etape Czech Republic routes reveal!
On November 26, the new routes for L'Etape Czech Republic 2025 have been released during the official presentation in Prague.
A Year of Firsts and Fierce Challenges
In 2025, the Czech Republic will once again host the prestigious L'Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France series, marking its fifth anniversary. For the second time in history, the event will feature two distinct stages: a Hilly Stage starting in Prague on June 21 and a Mountain Stage set to challenge riders in Prachatice on August 2. The stakes are higher than ever with the introduction of a cumulative overall winner for the first time in the event’s history.
The Growing Legacy of L'Etape Czech Republic
"L'Etape Czech Republic is no longer just a race; it’s a nationwide celebration" says Tomáš Pravenec, Director of Petr Čech Sport, the event’s organizing body. "From entire villages to families lining the roads, the energy and community involvement have been extraordinary."

This year’s theme focuses on uniting generations, with organizers seeking to bring two cycling legends, with victories in the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and World Championships, as ambassadors for the Hilly Stage. "Cycling transcends generations, from children to seniors" adds Přemysl Novák, project manager of L'Etape Czech Republic.
A Family Affair: The Spirit of Generational Cycling
Former pro rider and 2020 Tour de France stage winner, Zdeněk Štybar, embodies this spirit. "Last year, my father and I rode together. Even in retirement, he was motivated to train for the event, and we completed the short route side by side. I set the pace at 35-40 km/h, and it was a thrill for both of us. Seeing my dad achieve something he never thought possible was unforgettable" Štybar said, smiling proudly.
The Iconic Hilly Stage: A Farewell to Strahov
The Hilly Stage, a staple in the Czech cycling calendar, will start in Prague on June 21 and feature three route options:
- Long Route: 139 km, 1,900 meters of elevation
- Medium Route: 97 km, 1,000 meters of elevation
- Short Route: 66 km, 700 meters of elevation
“This year’s course pays tribute to all the regions that embraced us with open arms. However, we will bid farewell to Strahov due to upcoming construction projects. The 2025 edition is a final homage to this historic site” explains Novák, referencing the 1981 Road Cycling World Championships held at Strahov.
For 2026, the route will shift across the Vltava River to a completely new course.
The Mountain Stage: a challenge that is worth the climb!
On August 2, Prachatice will host the Mountain Stage, a grueling 110 km ride with a 2,192-meter elevation gain. Forty percent of the route will differ from 2024, including a dramatic pass through Český Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Climbs to Kleť and Libínské sedlo promise to push riders to their limits.
Discussions are underway to bring a Tour de France champion as an ambassador, adding further excitement to the already intense competition. “This will motivate even the most hesitant riders to conquer the Šumava mountains” says Novák.
A new challenge : L'Etape Czech Republic overall championship!
For the first time, the combined results from both stages will determine the overall champion of the L'Etape Czech Republic series.
Registration is now open, with early-bird discounts available until December 1 using the code “dvacet2025”.
Whether you're a seasoned competitor or a family enjoying the festivities, the L'Etape Czech Republic by Tour de France 2025 promises an unforgettable cycling experience.
