Luis León Sánchez, ambassador of L'Étape Madrid by Tour de France presented by UNIVERSAE

The cyclist from Murcia, winner of four Tour stages and with 29 grand tours under his belt, will be in the start line of the Madrid's event on October 1st.

Luis León Sánchez will be the ambassador of L'Étape Madrid by Tour de France presented by UNIVERSAE. The Astana Qazaqstan Team rider, who had to abandon the Tour de France due to a fall and is currently competing in his 14th Vuelta, will take the start together with the rest of the peloton of the Madrid cyclotourist march on October 1.

Sánchez is one of the most important Spanish cyclists of the last two decades. 20 years competing in UCI World Tour category races and a total of 31 participations in grand tours behind him attest to his quality.

The rider from Mule is also one of those who know the Grande Boucle best. He has participated in a total of 12 Tours de France in which he has won four stage victories. Short breakaways, long distances or 'leg-breaking' terrains are the profiles that have always been best suited to this cyclist, who has shown a special gift for reading the stages and hunting victories throughout his career.

This is also evidenced by the two Donostia Klasikoas that he has in his palmares, as well as the overall and four stages in the Paris - Nice that he won between 2007 and 2012.

The peloton at L'Étape Madrid by Tour de France presented by UNIVERSAE will also be able to experience first-hand the climbing skills of Luis León Sánchez. The former king of the mountains in La Vuelta 2014 will be able to wear the top jersey again, as well as all the participants of the march who want to fight for this classification on October 1.

The King and Queen of the Mountain prizes will be some of the classifications that will be at stake in the Madrid march. As well as the Sprint Challenge, which will be located at a point of the race, as if it were an intermediate sprint of the Tour de France.

All this in the 153 kilometers, four ports and 2,500 meters of elevation gain that make up the route. A race that drinks from the legend of the Tour de France and that, in 2023, will have another legend of the Grande Boucle in its peloton: Luis León Sánchez.
